The WhiskeyReviewer.com gave a great review of Troy & Sons Platinum this month!
Smooth is the operative word when talking about the Platinum. It comes at you with a light, oily mouth feel that doesn't burn as much as tingle, with a light sweet taste of corn and cereal throughout. It is refreshing when sampled with a little ice but as I mentioned it steps it up a notch when it plays with others in the form of a cocktail.

"I'm a really big fan of Troy & Sons," says Dan Latimer, Husk's general manager. "The flavors in there and the nuances in that moonshine are really awesome to me, and I think that [Ball's] ability to really showcase the ingredient that goes into the whiskey is just beautiful, this strong cereal flavor that comes through."

This week we'd like to shine a light on our friends at Disney's Wilderness Lodge at Disney World in Florida. They are serving two very tasty twists on some classic recipes - an old fashioned and a margarita. You'll notice that they are using our aged Oak Reserve whiskey in the margarita and our unaged Platinum in the Old Fashioned, the opposite of what is traditionally used. Just goes to show you how versatile our spirits are! Enjoy these recipes at home, or if you are visiting Disney World anytime soon, be sure to stop in at the beautiful Wilderness Lodge and tell them why you're there!

Charlie and I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving! We enjoyed a quiet day with our sons, nephews, and family. Asheville lent us a perfectly cool and sunny day for a family hike before we sat down to our roundtable Thanksgiving dinner. There's nothing better than all in good health and being with those you love. We're grateful for the opportunity to make good spirits and to bring good cheer to all of you!

Wow! What a month! October has been a very exciting time for us. Maybe it's the hints of cooler weather rolling in, but people really seem to be warming up to our spirits across the country. Troy and Charlie have been spending lots of time in Orlando at Epcot's International Wine & Food Festival. In addition to doing various tastings over the last few weeks in the Orlando area, Troy and Charlie are at the actual festival now. Last night they poured Moonlit Margaritas at the "Party for the Senses" feature party with over 1200 people in attendance (see pictures of the event here). We were told over and over that no one has ever had a table as busy as ours was at the festival! Troy and Charlie have been holding seminars about mixology and teaching others everything that we've learned over the years about pouring fine spirits. They'll also be stopping in to see some of our friends at venues like Todd English's Bluezoo, Disney's Wilderness Lodge, Hooch, The Ravenous Pig, Cask and Larder, and many others. The excitement of it all is really contagious!

Troy's been spending quite some time travelin around the Sunshine State lately, and she has had the amazing opportunity to work with the wonderful people at Whispering Canyon Cafe, located at Disney's beautiful Wilderness Lodge! Troy trained the cast members on how to pour and serve our Platinum moonshine, and now they are featuring a delicious moonshine margarita on their menu, which has turned out to be quite popular amongst the diners! And what an exciting setting to enjoy it in! Always smiles, laughter, and magic resounding through the lodge...don't blame the moonshine margarita if you get a bit dizzy looking up though!

The Share Event in NY was really wonderful last night. We poured our whiskeys for the 700 attendees and helped to raise hundreds of thousands for breast and ovarian cancer support. Famous women chefs from around the city prepared scrumptious, make-your-mouth-water foods. It was a pleasure meeting many of them along with their teams. I loved hearing the stunned reactions to our smooth, smooth whiskeys!

This beautiful still is about to travel halfway around the world from Germany (from the incredible Kothe Distilling) and will find its way here to 12 Old Charlotte Highway, Asheville, North Carolina!

The corn really is "as high as an elephant's eye", just like the song from Oklahoma says it is. And it's beautiful! We've been really fortunate here in our mountains. Unlike many parts of the country, we've had plenty of rain and sunshine and the corn is healthy and the stalks are reaching up to the sky. As most of you know, Crooked Creek corn is an heirloom corn, so our corn hasn't been scientifically cultivated to maximize yield, but developed over generations to produce a sweet and flavorful product that added joy to the table, whether it was on your plate or in your glass!

I'm at Walt Disney World working on training the staff of Whispering Canyon Café at Disney's Wilderness Lodge about Troy & Sons. Troy and Sons was mentioned in the July/August 2012 American Express Departures magazine during its spotlight of the Asheville food scene!
Here is a little excerpt:
Asheville supports some ten farmers' markets and a dozen notable restaurants, including two that have been recognized by the James Beard Foundation. The area's biggest draw, Biltmore Estate—the grand country manor built in 1895 by George Vanderbilt—has also joined the farm-to-table movement, and there's even a craft-beer boom that has won Asheville the designation "Beer City U.S.A." Foragers roam the nearby Blue Ridge Mountains for ramps, wild greens and medicinal herbs, while closer to town, food-centric start-ups produce artisanal cheese, bread, chocolate, kombucha, charcuterie, preserves and Troy & Sons Moonshine, which is made from a unique heirloom corn grown locally for more than 150 years.

Thirsty South Review: "This may be the best commercial "moonshine" I've had, meaning it captures the character of what really good moonshine should be, with evident corn but enough complexity and smoothness to make things really interesting." Read the full article here

Troy's passion for finding and creating the best moonshine has led her to a new creation just in time for Valentine's Day . .
"Made by a team comprised of an agronomist/foodie turned master chocolate maker, and an NIH scientist that has produced the world's finest ganaches inspired by recipes from Francois Payard and Pierre Hermé and who has hosted dinner parties at the French Embassy in D.C."
Since these chocolates are hand-made, there is a very limited supply which we are offering exclusively to dedicated Troy & Sons Moonshine friends for Valentine's Day.
UPDATE: Our Moonshine chocolates were a hit! Our Valentine's limited edition chocolates are all gone. Please contact us directly to find out when our next offering for our specialty Moonshine truffles will be available!

Olivia Newton John, John Easterling, Kimberly, and Kingsley kept us smiling today over a taste of moonshine. This is the second time we've gotten to meet Olivia. The first was at the Noel Awards in California when our son Marshall wrote the invocation honoring Audrey Hepburn and Rosa Parks. She's even more lovely now. Years seem to improve us if we let them.

At M1NT a hip club in Shanghai, Chinese media and distributors got a chance to taste their first American moonshine. Surprisingly they liked our smooth moonshine even more than the aged spirits. Perhaps it was the spirits, but we found the Chinese to be happy and fun loving. By the end of the night Troy had lost her voice from talking too much.

At last we are harvesting our Crooked Creek Corn for next year's moonshine. A rare corn makes an even rarer spirit.
